Nancy Jones
Nancy Jones, a daughter of Caleb and Sarah Jones, was born in Owen County, Kentucky on 22 December 1822. Nancy died 17 October 1898 in Monticello, Piatt, Illinois.
Her first husband was Charles Wesley Harris, who was born in Virginia about 1816. They married on 27 August 1840. They had 9 children: those known include: Martha P, born in Kentucky about 1842; Mary, who was born in Illinois about 1845; William F(?), born about 1846 in Kentucky; a daughter, Frances, born in Illinois about 1847 and Charles born in 1850 in Illinois. All of them, along with: 3 y/o Lydia Clark; 19 y/o Emanuel Painter and 24 y/o Archibald Davis are living at: East side of Sangamon, Piatt County, Illinois in 1850.
Charles, the husband, died of lung fever in 1858.
Nancy is doing fine, it seems, in 1860 while living in Monticello, Piatt, Illinois with land valued at $5,000 and personal property shown as valued at $15,000. Children: Mary J, William T(?), Frances "Fannie C" and Charles E are at home, along with children born since 1850: Benjamin F, shown as age 7; James M, age 5 and Nancy C, age 3. Also with her is future husband, 28 y/o Benjamin F. Adkins, a native of Ohio. All of the children are now shown as having been born in Illinois.
Nancy marries Benjamin F. Adkins in Piatt County on 6 Dec 1860 (Marriage volume 00A - Page 0022).
They are still living in Monticello in 1870 and 3 of Nancy's children by Charles W. Harris remain at home: Benjamin, James and Nancy.
By 1880, only Benjamin Harris and Charles Adkins (Benjamin F. Adkins' son) remain at home with their parents in Monticello.
Martha, the oldest child had married L (Lysander) W Patterson/Pattison on 11 Aug. 1863 in Piatt Co.
Frances may have married 9 Aug 1866 to William H Babcock.
Charles E Harris married Jane Purcell (aka Persel) in Piatt County on 18 March 1874.
Nancy died 17 October 1898 in Monticello with these children surviving:
William, who lives in Solomon, Kansas
Martha, wife of L W Patterson, of Manhattan, Kansas
Nannie C, of Abilene, Kansas
Edward (possibly Charles E?) (It seems that after Illinois, he went to Kansas and then Colorado.
Benjamin survived her over 20 years:
